France rounds up Chechen group in ‘terror’ sweep

Five Russian Chechens suspected of planning an attack were arrested in southern France during a series of nighttime police raids, French prosecutors said Tuesday.

One of the suspects was hiding a cache of explosives near a local stadium in Béziers, local newspaper Midi Libre reported.

Investigators said anti-terror forces aren't familiar with the crew — and they could be "gangsters" participating in organized crime, instead of terrorists, according to The Telegraph.

On Monday, four men suspected of providing logistical support for Amedy Coulibaly — who killed four people when he attacked a kosher grocery store in Paris — appeared in a Paris court to face terrorism-related charges.

Meanwhile, a Malian employee who hid customers inside a basement refrigerator when Coulibaly stormed the supermarket was awarded French citizenship in a naturalization ceremony Tuesday.

Lassana Bathily, 24, a Muslim who has lived in France for about nine years, was fast-tracked for citizenship in light of his heroic deeds. "People tell me I am a hero. I am not a hero," he said, according to NBC News. "I am very happy. Long live liberty! Long live friendship! Long live solidarity! Long live France!" he exclaimed.
