Troops on high alert ahead of ‘torture’ report

WASHINGTON — Marines protecting US embassies overseas were put on high alert Monday in anticipation of the release of a previously secret report on the CIA's use of torture in the years after 9/11.

The Senate Intelligence Committee is set Tuesday to release a 500-page unclassified version of a heavily redacted report on US intelligence activities.

The Pentagon announced that troops were taking "force-protection measures" to respond to contingencies faster than usual.

The report, six years in the making, outlines "enhanced interrogation techniques" employed on terror suspects and details the use of CIA black sites for interrogation — potentially embarrassing foreign nations that cooperated.

It "could lead to a greater risk that is posed to US facilities and individuals all around the world," White House press secretary Josh Earnest said Monday.
