About two dozen City Council members staged a "die-in" on Monday — before darting onto Broadway in a protest that backed up traffic in the middle of the workday.
"We have a responsibility to wake you up, and the only way people get woken up is if you disrupt their everyday normalcy," said Councilman Andy King (D-Bronx), who was protesting the Staten Island grand-jury decision to not indict Officer Pantaleo in the chokehold death of Eric Garner.
Three Brooklyn Democrats who participated — Inez Barron, Laurie Cumbo and Darlene Mealy — didn't even bother attending a scheduled council meeting afterward.
Pat Lynch of the Patrolmen's Benevolent Association called the protest "reprehensible."
Fran McGuire, a manager at the nearby Bolton's clothing store, agreed.
"They are working for the city. They just can't stop working to go protest," she said.
