WASHINGTON — For the sixth consecutive month, President Obama swooped into New York on Tuesday to raise campaign cash for struggling Democrats.
All the events were private.
At the Chelsea townhouse of Bill White, former president of the Intrepid Museum, and his husband, Bryan Eure, Obama hauled in as much as $810,000 for the Democratic National Committee.
Rosie O'Donnell, Mark Wahlberg and movie mogul Harvey Weinstein were among the guests plunking down up to $32,400 each. Police shut down 22nd Street between Ninth and 10th Avenues, requiring residents to show ID before they were allowed to enter the block.
Less than two hours later, Obama dropped by the new White Street restaurant in Tribeca, where 250 guests each contributed $1,000 or more for the DNC.
Police shut down the nearby Franklin Street subway station during the fund-raiser, which began at 4:10 p.m. right before rush hour.
His final stop was the lavish 20-acre Greenwich, Conn., estate of real-estate investor Richard Richman.
