Twitter Chief Executive Dick Costolo gave his microblogging site a new look on Tuesday that prompted renewed catcalls that Twitter is starting to look and feel a little too much like Facebook.
Costolo has been tweaking the site a lot this past year in a bid to keep users' interested amid fears that its once booming user growth is beginning to slow.
Tuesday's redesign allow users to pin their favorite tweet to the top of their profile page, and will automatically enlarge tweets that generate attention.
It was the new look, however, that prompted criticisms that Costolo is mimicking Facebook.
The San Francisco company now allows for an extra large photo across the top of users' personal pages, along with a smaller face shot off to the left — just like on Facebook.
"We like you because you are not like Facebook. Don't insult us with the #Twitter4Dummies redesign," @YourAnonNews tweeted.
It's not the first Twitter tweaks that have echoed Facebook.
The tech company recently tested out concepts such as "tagging" photos, replacing the "retweet" function with a new "sharing" function and allowing people to see how many "views" their tweets got, even if no one retweeted it or made it a "favorite."
Costolo is desperate to prove he's growing users to get back in Wall Street's good graces. The company, which just scheduled its next earnings to be released on April 29th, saw its stock fall by double digits in February after it reported its first earnings since going public.
Twitter knocked it out of the park by more than doubling revenues, but spooked investors by reporting 241 million monthly active users in the fourth quarter — up just 3.8 percent from the previous quarter.
Twitter shares closed at $41.78 on Tuesday, down 1.6 percent.
