A Westchester father who is a quadriplegic after suffering grave injuries in last year's Metro-North derailment planned to speak publicly for the first time on Wednesday to announce his $100 million lawsuit against the agency.
"I constantly live with nerve pain in my arms and hands, muscle spasms that painfully twist and turn my spine, and bed sores that never seem to heal," the struggling Metro-North employee, Samuel Rivera, will announce according to a copy of his prepared remarks.
He thanked his employer for not abandoning him after the Dec. 1 incident.
He said the suit is "to protect my family's financial future."
"My care will costs hundreds of thousands of dollars each year," Rivera said.

But, he added in remarks, "it's extremely hard to forget the results" of conductor William Rockefeller's nodding off behind the wheel.
Rivera, 39, planned to speak at a press conference held at a White Plains rehabilitation facility where he has been since undergoing spinal surgery last year.
His attorney, Gregory Cannata, filed the $100 million suit in Bronx Supreme Court on April 7. Rivera's is the seventh case against Metro-North over the tragedy.
The Ossining resident plans to call for legislation requiring trains to have seat belts— believing that they could have saved some of the four lives that were lost as a result of the derailment.
The devoted Knicks and Yankees fan has no movement in his legs and can barely lift his arms.
"I must say you don't realize what you have until it's gone; simple things like walking and hugging your kids," he said in the remarks.
A rep for Metro-North declined to comment.
