On April 25, the CW premiered the backdoor pilot for "The Originals," the highly anticipated spin-off from the network's flagship series, "The Vampire Diaries." The new show focuses on the original vampire family, the Mikaelsons, and is set in the French Quarter of New Orleans - a city no stranger to dark magic and things that go bump in the night. Led by powerful baddie brother Klaus, the siblings leave Mystic Falls for the Big Easy, in an attempt to regain the power they once held and continue their quest for vampire (and human) domination.

When The CW launches its new series, "The Originals", fans of "The Vampire Diaries" will undoubtedly be hooked.
Helmed by TVD writer and executive producer Julie Plec, fans can expect to see more of the same features that drew them to TVD: strong character development, complex and fast-paced story arcs with a potent combination of love triangles and star-crossed romance, the angst only an immortal can feel and the danger of losing those you love (because not even major characters are safe from being killed off!).
By moving the Mikaelsons to New Orleans, the writers of TVD can return to its core, reining in a web of storylines that, although it had not yet become overburdened, risked losing focus. While most fans love the intricate relationships between the residents of Mystic Falls, our main characters are Stefan, Damon and Elena. More of everyone else means less of them.
The Mikaelsons move to New Orleans teased some interesting possibilities for the new series, including a twist that not even the most wild fan speculation could have predicted: Klaus and his werewolf one-night-stand are having a supernatural baby. But Klaus still has feelings for his vampire love back home. Will she leave Mystic Falls to join him in Nola?
Having two shows will give fans more to sink their teeth into. New alliances will form, new enemies will emerge and fans can look forward to brand-new characters to love and lose, giving viewers one more opportunity to shout, "I can't wait until next week!"
