Brooklyn rapper Joey Bada$$, who recently gained notoriety after Malia Obama took an Instagram selfie in one of his T-shirts, released a controversial music video Wednesday depicting himself being shot dead by the NYPD.

Bada$$, real name Jo-Vaughn Scott, released the video for his song "Like Me" Wednesday, referencing the deaths of Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown at the hands of police.

"In the video, the hot-headed guy, he gets killed by the police with a gun in his hand," the 20-year-old East Flatbush native told Mother Jones. "And me, the cool guy, who is away from all the violence, I still end up being mixed in the loop — just being a victim because of my surroundings."

On Jan. 4, President Obama's daughter Malia posted a selfie on Instagram sporting the hashtag #B4DAMONEY, while wearing a Joey Bada$$ T-shirt.
