It's been nearly a year since Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin announced their "conscious uncoupling," but the couple actually parted ways two years prior.
In fact, Paltrow, 42, reportedly bought a house back in 2012 to begin "a year of quiet separation," according to Marie Claire Australia (via The Daily Mail).
While filming "Mortdecai," the Oscar-winning actress sought the help of her co-star Johnny Depp, who at the time was going through his own breakup with Vanessa Paradis.
"Nobody knew what Chris and I had been going through, so I didn't say 'Hey, this is what's happening,'" shared Paltrow about her breakup. "But I did ask him mostly children-centric questions, like 'How is it on them? How did you do it?'"
Paltrow and Martin, 37, have two children together—daughter Apple, 10, and son Moses, 8.
In March 2014, the couple called it quits after 11 years of marriage.
At the time Paltrow released a statement on her website, goop, that read, "We have been working hard for well over a year, some of it together, some of separated, to see what might have been possible between us, and we have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate."
Since parting ways, Paltrow and Martin have remained amicable.
"We've worked really f—king hard to get to [this] point," Paltrow told Marie Claire for their January issue. "But we're very, very close and it's so nice … I feel like it's, in a way, the relationship we were meant to have."
