Business partners get roped into divorce battle

There's an unusual third and fourth party in this divorce — the husband's two business partners.

A Queens judge recently took the unusual step of bringing two co-owners of a lucrative lower Manhattan parking garage into the divorce battle between the third owner, Benny Tal, and his estranged wife, Michal, citing the men's entwined finances.

"It's like a dirty soap opera," Michal told The Post.

"There's so much fraud going on, we now have a divorce proceeding involving a husband, wife and his two business partners."

Michal, a 47-year-old homemaker, said she filed for divorce against her husband of 20 years in 2009 thinking it would be a simple split.

But when a court-appointed accountant started probing the books of Kura River Management, operators of the 60-space garage at 2 Broadway that her husband co-owns, one of his partners, David Khoukhachvili, balked and closed the door on the investigation.

"The business generated a substantial cash income, most of which went undeclared for tax purposes," Queens Supreme Court Judge Allan Weiss wrote in a recent decision.

Then, in July 2011, Benny, Khoukhachvili and their third partner, Shalom Heletz, conspired to deprive Michal of her interest in the business, according to Weiss' decision.

The men low-balled Benny's $1.6 million share in the garage to a mere $250,000 — and then Benny fled with the cash.

The judge issued an arrest warrant for Benny, and he was dragged into court from his hideout at a friend's apartment.

But by that time, the $250,000 had vanished. Benny told The Post he lost the money in bad investments.

Michal said the split has left her penniless, depressed, and even caused her to be evicted from her Forest Hills home.

She sued Khoukhachvili and Heletz in a separate fraud case for $7 million in 2013, and Judge Weiss decided that Benny's business partners should become defendants in the divorce.

Peter Thomas, a lawyer for the partners, said the allegations are "baseless."

He declined to comment on the ongoing litigation but added, "When it's over, I'm sure the facts will be clear."
