Vandals slash tires of over 100 parked cars in Sheepshead Bay

A man and woman strolled through the quiet streets of Sheepshead Bay early Sunday — and used knives to slash the tires on more than a hundred parked cars, authorities said.

The vandals struck the residential Brooklyn neighborhood around 1 a.m., stabbing the two curb-side tires of each car, surveillance video shows.

They covered a large swath of the neighborhood — from East 17th Street to East 24th Street and Avenue T to Quentin Road, police said.

"Every car on my block on this side got hit," said Esterina Tafrizi, 65, who lives on East 23rd Street and was one of the victims. "There were so many tow trucks and police cars here this morning. Hundreds of cars were towed away to get fixed."

"It's terrible. Many people just got the new tires for winter," she added. "This is like nothing I have ever seen."

A Post reporter counted at least 74 cars with flat tires, but local residents said countless others had already been towed away for repair.

Surveillance video from a nearby house showed a man walking quickly up one of the streets as he punctured the tires of several cars with a knife without stopping.

Other footage from the Chase bank near East 17th Street and Kings Highway showed the man and a woman slashing tires together, police sources said.

Victims awoke Sunday to find the trail of destruction in front of their homes before a fleet of tow trucks descended on the area.

"I just paid $260 for one tire! It is insane," said Veronica Stillsman, 49, who had to have her car towed to a nearby garage. "I can't believe they did this. They did my car in my driveway!"

"I hope they catch these people and lock them away for a long time."

Police said another instance of widespread car vandalism occurred in Manhattan on Saturday, when at least 21 cars' windows were smashed. It did not appear to be related to the vandalism in Brooklyn, authorities said.

In the Manhattan case, a vandal smashed the passenger-side windows of a row of cars along Riverside Drive between 149th and 152nd streets.

No arrests have been made in either incident.
