Customers wait hours for new iPhone

Larger screens spelled longer lines outside New York Apple stores Friday morning.

Hundreds of people endured a several-hour – sometimes daylong – wait to be the first users of Apple's latest gadgets: the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.

The queue outside Apple's flagship Fifth Avenue store stretched six blocks north and snaked around the corner to Madison Avenue about a half-hour before doors opened at 8 a.m.

Some Apple fanatics waited overnight, like Midtown resident Mailon Kent, who stood in line at the Meatpacking District store for about 24 hours to get a gold iPhone 6 plus.

"I came by yesterday morning to see if anyone was in line, and it had already started to form, so I [joined it]," the 36-year-old told The Post. "It was nice weather, and I made some nice friends. You might as well have a good time if this is what you're going to do."

Kent said he'll have to take a cat nap before heading into work later on today.

Many of the people who snagged spots at the start of the line were part of a professional line-waiting company. Chelsea resident Robert Samuel, who created the company SOLD Inc., was the first person to wait when he showed up on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Samuel was hired by self-described "Apple fanatic" Joe Sorensen, 35, a Wall Street banker who paid him about $20 an hour.

"I need to have the phone on launch day. I couldn't wait," the Hoboken resident said, adding that this is first time he's hired someone to brave the long line for him.
