A retired NYPD officer fatally shot a man in the face after the victim attempted to carjack him in East New York, police sources said.

The 20-year-old man, identified by police as Manuel Ocampo,18, was allegedly armed with a pistol when he confronted the retired cop on Linden Boulevard and Georgia Avenue around 3:15 a.m. Tuesday, according to police.

He allegedly pointed the pistol at the 55-year-old veteran, told him to get out of the vehicle, and demanded cash, the sources said.

That's when the retired cop pulled out his service weapon.

Ocampo was rushed to Brookdale Hospital where he was pronounced DOA, cops said.

The retired officer was sent to Kings County Hospital for an asthma condition but wasn't seriously injured.

Police say they recovered a weapon at the scene.
