City beaches set to open for Memorial Day weekend

The actress may want to invest in an umbrella for possible showers Friday and Saturday, but she can rest assured that the clouds will part for a sunny, warm Memorial Day weekend.

Beaches across the city open at 10 a.m. Saturday — marking the start of summer — but revelers will likely want to wait until Sunday and Monday, which will both be sunny in the high 70s and low 80s.

For beach conditions, including sewage, pollution or rain runoff, people can text "BEACH" to 877-877, a new Health Department service.

It'll be a jam-packed weekend across the city.

Coney Island's Luna Park is showcasing its spinning Luna 360 ride and two dozen others starting at noon Friday.

Ferry rides to Governors Island launch Saturday, when the island's Opening Day Family Festival begins at noon.

As part of Fleet Week, USS Cole, the terror-targeted destroyer, will be open free to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m through Memorial Day.

And movie buffs can catch a free screening of "Top Gun" under the stars on the Intrepid at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Last year, more than 15 million people visited city beaches.

"The people's playground is open," Brooklyn Parks Commissioner Kevin Jeffrey said at a beach-season kickoff event on Thursday.
