Rolling Stones bandmates worry about Jagger

Mick Jagger is so shattered by the suicide of longtime lover L'Wren Scott that his bandmates are worried about the health of their aging frontman.

"He's not really well. He's not really here. It was such a shock," Rolling Stones drummer Charlie Watts told Britain's Daily Mail on Wednesday.

In a statement posted on the band's Web site, guitarist Keith Richards said, "No one saw this coming.

"Mick's always been my soul brother and we love him. We're thick as thieves and we're all feeling for the man," added Richards, who has been Jagger's friend and song-writing partner for more than 50 years.

The Stones' other guitarist, Ronnie Wood, said, "This is such terrible news, and right now, the important thing is that we are all pulling together to offer Mick our support and help him through this sad time."

The singer, 70, hasn't slept since learning that Scott, 49, hanged herself in her luxurious Manhattan apartment Monday morning, and is even having trouble speaking, according to the Daily Mail.

The report also said he was "under close observation" by medical professionals on tour with the band, which has been together more than 50 years.

Conflicting reports out of Australia said that Jagger was either holed up in the Hyatt Regency Perth with his bandmates and daughters Georgia May and Elizabeth, or already en route to New York.

He was last spotted in public looking grieved as he left Coco's restaurant in South Perth, where he was rocked by word of Scott's death midway through dinner.

Restaurant manager Denise Zammit told Closer Weekly magazine that Jagger was in a "great mood" and had polished off two plates of seafood and local fish when a member of his entourage came in to break the grim news.

Jagger "left pretty quickly after that," Zammit said, but took the time to say goodbye to his waiter, a fellow Englishman with whom he had happily chatted during his meal.

"Before he left the restaurant he shook the waiter's hand and said, 'I'm sorry I have to leave,' and he said he'd had a great night," Zammit said. "He said he had to leave straight away."

The Stones postponed a string of nearly sold-out shows in Australia and New Zealand in the wake of Scott's death, with Jagger posting an online message saying: "I am still struggling to understand how my lover and best friend could end her life in this tragic way."

Photos showed the Stones' private jet being readied for takeoff at Perth International Airport.

Reports said the rockers and their touring entourage were expected to fly out no later than Thursday.
