LOWDOWN: Though the Irish-bred colt Cerro has won on dirt, chances are he's better on turf, which suggests he can excel over a synthetic surface. He has been training well over the surface at Keeneland for this final Derby prep, which will be his first start since the Feb. 23 Fountain of Youth, when he was in the thick of things to the turn for home before fading late.

Hawthorne, eighth race. Grade 3. Purse: $750,000. 1¹/‚ˆ miles, 3-year-olds. Post: 6:15 p.m.
LOWDOWN: After winning his first two starts last year by a combined 15 lengths, Dewey Square completed his 2-year-old campaign finishing third in the Kentucky Jockey Club. In two starts this year, he has failed to follow up on that promising beginning, finishing off the board in the Holy Bull and Palm Beach against some pretty stiff competition. The son of Bernardini has trained well since, however, and is taken to rebound for Dale Romans at a big price.

Charles Town, 12th race. Grade 2. Purse: $1,500,000. 1¹/‚ˆ miles, 4-year-olds and up. Post: 10:30 p.m.
LOWDOWN: Game On Dude has won all three of his starts since Mike Smith signed on as his jockey, including a 7 3/4-length romp last out in the Santa Anita Handicap. There's some question over how he will handle shipping East, but in his current form, while only giving away from 5-to-7 pounds to his six opponents, he should prevail.

LAST WEEK: At Keeneland, Centre Court won the Jenny Wiley paying $5.40, $3, $2.40; Java's War won the Blue Grass paying $11.20, $5.60, $4; at Oaklawn, Texas Bling (14-1) was eighth in the Arkansas Derby.
