The Newspaper Association of America is calling for an end to the 39-year-old cross-ownership limit by the Federal Communications Commission that bans newspapers from owning broadcast TV or radio outlets in the same market.
Paul Boyle, the associations senior vice president of public policy, petitioned the FCC on Wednesday to rescind the rules.
"It is a nonsensical, irrational ban," he said. "It made sense in 1975 when there were three tv network, but with all the news outlets today, it doesn't make any sense any longer."
