CENTRAL ISLIP — Three Long Island men have been indicted on charges of swindling a lottery winner of nearly $75,000.
Suffolk County District Attorney Thomas Spota says they deceived the winner by paying him $774 when he redeemed the ticket at a Riverside gas station on March 18.
Two of the suspects worked at the Valero gas station.
Police say the victim, Marvin Choy Nij, was a 28-year-old construction worker from Guatemala who didn't speak or write English.
Spota says Orhan Ozturk, his brother Yunis and Yalcin Nergiz cashed the winning ticket at the lottery's Garden City customer service center. He says the three gave themselves $48,000 each after taxes.
The suspects are being held without bail. They're due in court in Central Islip on Wednesday.
Information about their lawyer wasn't immediately available.
