In a cruel twist of fate, a group of already traumatized Newtown massacre victims' families suddenly found themselves caught up in the chaos of yesterday's bloody Boston Marathon.
The group was seated in a special tented VIP area near the site of the deadly dual explosions, according to reports.
The race's 26th mile was dedicated to the 26 Sandy Hook Elementary school victims — but a touching tribute soon turned into renewed horror for the special attendees.
"We can't take any more tragedies," Dennis Loncto, 72, of Ridgefield, Conn., told The Post after the blasts.
Loncto's wife, Mary Ellen, was part of a Newtown running team that participated to honor massacre victims.
He said his wife was just three-quarters of a mile away from the finish line when she suddenly saw runners heading in the opposite direction.
"She didn't know what was happening," he said. "I was so relieved when I got to her on the phone and found out she was OK. This is just unfathomable."
After frantic messages poured onto their Facebook page, a representative of the group announced that the team was accounted for.
The run was heavy with Newtown memorials, including a special 26th-mile marker featuring the city seal surrounded by 26 stars. Plus, there were 26 seconds of silence before the race.
