Authorities are calling the death of a 6-year-old New York girl suspicious after she was found unresponsive on Easter Sunday with no signs of trauma.
David Carr, the father of 6-year-old Lacey Carr, called 911 Sunday afternoon and said he could not wake up his daughter in their Croton-on-Hudson home, according to The Journal News.
Lacey Carr was taken to a local hospital and was pronounced dead. Her Mother, Kathleen Dymes, 51, was found on a floor next to the bed and she remained hospitalized Monday in critical condition. Police have not been able to interview Dymes because of her condition.
Authorities hope an autopsy performed on the girl will reveal the cause of her death. They have ruled out carbon monoxide as a cause, as the grandfather of the family was home at the time and was not injured, NBC New York reports.
At this time, police consider Lacey Carr's death suspicious, the station reported.
Police said David Carr does not live at the home but was visiting to see his daughter.
A neighbor, Donald Divney, called the death "a very, very sad situation" and described Lacey as an "outgoing and lovable" girl who "used to call over to us all the time" as she played in her front yard, The Journal News reports.
Dymes, a registered nurse, has been the subject of two professional misconduct cases.
In 2012, she was suspended for three months and placed on two years professional probation after being convicted of driving while intoxicated, attempted false written statement and petty larceny, according to records from the state Office of Professional Discipline.
A decade earlier, she was suspended for a year for diverting Demerol — a pain-relieving drug — from the nursing home where she worked for her personal use, according to records examined by The Journal News.
