Durst’s days of fine dining are over — at least for now

NEW ORLEANS — No more garlic-encrusted drum fish for him.

Fine-cuisine-loving murder suspect Robert Durst has had to settle for chicken and catfish at the Elayn Hunt Correctional Facility's mental ward, where he is awaiting a court hearing Monday on charges he killed a California friend and confidant in 2000.

The day before Durst was busted for the Los Angeles murder, he feasted on a gourmet meal at Emeril Lagasse's French Quarter eatery.

But his days of fine dining are over, at least for now.

"Today, [they] had chicken. Some days, they have fish. It's usually catfish,'' said Donna Hall, whose nephew is locked up there.

Inmates who have crossed paths with Durst said he is holding up well.

"He's doing fine," said a woman visiting her son.

Durst's lawyer, Dick DeGuerin, gave a similar account.

Durst, 71, is under suicide watch.
