Stoudemire changes his tune, may consider buyout after break

Oh yeah, Amar'e Stoudemire is a conflicted man right now.

One day after saying at practice he was content to ride out the season with the Knicks, he said in an interview Thursday he hasn't ruled out asking for a buyout after the All-Star break.

Stoudemire first raised the idea of asking to be waived during the mid-January trip to London when he said soon after Phil Jackson's firesale he had "a very hard decision" to make. At Wednesday's practice, Stoudemire backtracked, saying "I don't think something will be done this season."

But Thursday, in an interview with Yahoo Sports, he reversed course again, saying he hasn't ruled out asking the Knicks to be let go so he can sign with a playoff contender. Stoudemire may return Friday night vs. the Nets in Brooklyn from a sprained ankle after missing the last 4 games. He's missed 13 of the last 17 games, also due to a sore right knee – a symbolism of his five injury-wracked season.

"It's not an easy decision to make," Stoudemire said in his latest flip-flop Thursday. "Over time, we will see how things pan out. You give yourself a break during the All-Star Break. You think about it with your family. That will give me a good solid week on how to weight out the rest of the season. All possibilities at this point are still open."

The chances of trading Stoudemire's expiring $23.4 million contract at the Feb. 19th deadline is very slim under salary-cap rules. Stoudemire would have to be waived by March 1st in order to be eligible for the playoffs with another squad. The Clippers, Mavericks and Blazers reportedly are in the market for a big man.

On Wednesday, Stoudemire said he wanted to talk to Knicks brass but sounded like he was more interested in finding out about their interest for next season. Perhaps if Stoudemire knows the Knicks will not re-sign him, he will ask out. "I haven't talked with Phil or Steve Mills yet about the future," Stoudemire said on Wednesday's practice. "I'm sure we'll talk soon about it. I don't think something will be done this season. But the future is in their hands and my health."

"It's always a though process, man, but I think the way we're playing basketball, it's tough to decide something right now," Stoudemire added on Wednesday."We win together, lose together."
