Last year really went out with a bang, according to police statistics obtained by The Post on Monday.
The NYPD data showed a 55 percent spike in homicides during the final weeks of 2014, which were marked by turmoil including anti-cop protests in the wake of the Eric Garner and Michael Brown cases that boiled over with the assassination of two officers on patrol.
A total of 31 people were slain between Dec. 8 and Sunday, compared with 20 people killed during the same time period a year earlier.
In addition, the city tallied 102 shooting victims during the 28-day period, up 13 percent from the 90 people who shot in the previous year's period.
The alarming numbers came despite an overall drop in homicides for 2014 to a record low of 332.
They also weren't mentioned by Mayor de Blasio or Police Commissioner Bill Bratton during a lengthy news conference touting the annual figures racked up by the NYPD.
In his opening remarks, de Blasio called 2014 "the most extraordinary year of all," saying the NYPD's numbers "make clear that it was possible all along to create a safer city and a fairer city."
In addition to a 4.6 percent drop in overall crime, de Blasio cited 2,600 fewer robberies than in 2013, which he said had "an extraordinary impact on people's lives, also setting a record."
De Blasio also noted a 15 percent drop in crime on the subways, with only two slayings.
"For those of us who have lived in this city for a long time, these are numbers that were once absolutely unimaginable," he said.
Bratton said that in 1990, people faced a 1-in-15 chance of becoming the victim of a serious crime, while today — with 1 million more city residents — that risk has been cut to about one in 84.
