The "I'm Looking for a Girlfriend" guy, who plastered the city with 40,000 posters begging for a date, is turning to a slightly more reliable method to find a mate — the Internet.
Dan Perino, 51, who claims to have gotten hundreds of dates with his lamppost advertising campaign last summer, now is using Facebook, Twitter and Instagram to look for love.
He hopes that, online, he will find a higher class of lady than the ones who call ads taped to street signs.
"You just don't know what you're getting into [on the street.] With Twitter and Facebook, you can see who you're interacting with," he told The Post.
"I don't want to go out with a fugly woman."
Perino became famous last July when he hung fliers all around Manhattan bearing his picture and the line: "I'm looking for a girlfriend."
The wannabe actor said that he got calls from many curious women — but none of them turned him on. He came to realize that New York's most eligible women just weren't ready to find a mate the same way they might find guitar lessons or a man with a van.
On one date, a woman who claimed to be in her 40s turned out to actually be 68. Perino wound up spending $5,000 on all his street-sign dating.

"The internet is attracting more serious people," he said. "The internet is more professional than seeing a flier on the street."
The Romeo has even signed up for dating Web sites OKCupid and Match.com, but said he may soon quit them because "they're all a scam and too expensive to keep up."
He said his plan has been working so far. His phone doesn't stop ringing, a he gets 10 to 15 calls each day since switching into virtual gear.
"I think the internet will give me everything I want, a girlfriend, a reality show and an independent film," he said.
