Receiver Rueben Randle did not start Sunday and was benched for the entire first quarter — the second time in the past three games he has been disciplined by Tom Coughlin.
"That's between Rueben and I,'' the coach said after the 24-13 victory over the Redskins.
Two weeks ago, Randle did not play in the first quarter in Jacksonville because he was late to a team meeting earlier in the week. This time, Randle again ran afoul of Coughlin.
"Things not always going to go your way, so when adversity hits you, got to pull through and make the best of it,'' Randle said.
This is a troubling slide for Randle, who has had a disappointing season and has shrunk as rookie Odell Beckham Jr. has ascended. He let the first two passes thrown his way slip through his hands and ended up with two receptions for 30 yards. He did make a difficult, in-traffic 18-yard grab in the fourth quarter on third-and-8 to set up Beckham's third touchdown.
"Third down, tight coverage and Eli [Manning] trusted me over the middle to make a play and I did,'' Randle said.
Manning did not sound pleased with Randle.
"You don't like to see your starting receiver get in trouble,'' Manning said. "It kind of throws off the rhythm of things.''
CB Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie showed off his speed in the third quarter by chasing down Andre Roberts on a 61-yard catch-and-run, with DRC having to make up a great deal of ground before hauling Roberts down at the Giants' 28-yard line.
"I played with him in Arizona, I know his speed,'' DRC said. "I definitely thought he was going, but the more I kept running, I realized I had a chance.''
Safety Antrel Rolle had a rough game. He got blown up by a Robert Griffin III stiff-arm on a 23-yard run, he did not tackle Roberts on the long completion and he hit RG3 out of bounds for an unnecessary-roughness penalty. Rolle said the Roberts play was not his fault.
"I did whatever I had to do on that play and if it got behind me, someone's supposed to be there and there was no one there,'' he said.
Second-year DE Damonte Moore left the stadium with a prize possession: An RG3 jersey. Moore said he and the Redskins quarterback became friendly in college, when Moore was at Texas A&M and twice played against Griffin and Baylor.
"I asked him, I have a little collection, I said I'd be honored if I can have one,'' said Moore, who gave his jersey to Griffin.
RB Rashad Jennings re-injured his ankle on his only rushing attempt. … Manning's passer rating of 118.5 was his second-highest of the season. … The Giants rushed for a season-low 49 yards.
