A convicted con man who once bilked nearly $10 million from a bevy of Hollywood stars dodged jail time Thursday when he was sentenced to two years' probation for racking up a relatively paltry $10,405 worth of booze, food and dental work on someone else's credit card.
But Manhattan federal Judge Colleen McMahon still ripped into Dana Giacchetto, 52, after cutting him the break, saying she "detests" people "who use other people's money for their own purposes."
Prosecutors had asked the judge for a one-to-seven-month sentence for Giacchetto, a money manager who served nearly three years in prison for swindling Ben Affleck, Cameron Diaz, Leonardo DiCaprio and others. In this latest case Giacchetto posed as Steve Stanulis — a former NYPD officer turned stripper — when he used a third person's credit card to buy a plane ticket from Vegas to Newark Airport in February 2013.
