This week’s couple: Aged beef

Age differences can be deceiving.

On paper, the four years between Devin, 26, and Kelly, 30, might not seem like a big deal.

The two got along famously and had a memorable meal at American Cut in Tribeca, but Kelly just couldn't see past Devin's baby-face — and the fact that he's still in his 20s.

The two didn't make plans for another date, but enjoyed each other. Maybe when they're both a bit older, they'll reconnect.​

She said:

I arrived a few minutes late and saw Devin at the bar. He was handsome, but very baby-faced -— not surprising given that he is only 26 years old, a detail I knew going into the date. He was engaging, but I could tell our energy was one of friendship rather than romance.

American Cut steakhouse's food was delicious. We both ordered the surf and turf, which came with a 52 ounce steak and an amazing sauce that was prepared en flambé tableside. The lobster was delicious — the best I've ever had.

On the drive uptown, our great conversation continued, but I could tell Devin is still very much in his 20s. He mentioned a place he visited recently and I forgot the name, but I know it's a place I wouldn't go to anymore. Devin is handsome, has great energy, and is fun to be with, but he's too young for me.

He said:

When I saw Kelly, I immediately thought, she is a beautiful woman. She also has a laid-back personality, and she put me at ease right away.

We talked a lot about food and traded stories on strange foods we've eaten. If it were a contest, I would have won, for my experiences in Taiwan.

The other contest we had was how much we could eat at American Cut. The steak was huge and we couldn't get through it all, but we agreed it was delicious.

I don't know if we'd date, and that's not because of her age. That's not an issue. We just never discussed future plans, and usually you do that before exchanging numbers. That's fine. This city isn't big, so I'm sure we'll see each other again.
