Welcome home, Richard Buery.

Buery returns from Ohio today after hitching up with Mike Mulgrew for a road trip to the Midwest in search of a good public school.

The deputy mayor and the teachers-union chief chose Cincinnati because of its "community schools" approach, which wraps schools in social services, from dental care to mental health, and partners with local businesses and community organizations.

It's the same trip the United Federation of Teachers boss took Bill de Blasio on last year when he was running for mayor. As The New York Times noted back then, the actual record of "community schools" is unfortunately much more mixed.

"What has gone largely unsaid is that many of Cincinnati's community schools are still in dire academic straits," reported the Times. It noted that one of the first Cincy schools to adopt the model ranked 3,218th out of the 3,456 public schools in Ohio in terms of academic performance.

We're all for going wherever there's success and copying what works. So we have in mind a trip the mayor has yet to take: a visit to a high-performing, New York City charter public school that sets high standards and demands achievement.

We're thinking Success Academy Bronx 2, a charter that ranks second in math among all New York state schools, even though it's located in America's poorest congressional district. Google Maps tells us it's only 13.4 miles from City Hall.

If Mayor de Blasio, Deputy Mayor Buery and Schools Chancellor Carmen FariƱa want to see a public school succeeding in a difficult environment, this is the place.

And The Post will be glad to cover the cab fare.
