Police discovered human remains buried in a Brooklyn back yard after being tipped off by an alleged drug smuggler who was arrested in August following a wild shootout with US marshals, sources said.
Authorities excavated the back yard in Crown Heights Thursday afternoon after they received info from alleged cocaine trafficker Oswald Lewis that a body was buried there, according to law-enforcement sources.
The skeletal remains were found wrapped in plastic and were sent to the Medical Examiner's Office for testing, the sources said. It was not clear if Lewis is a suspect in the killing. The residents of the home were questioned and released.
Lewis, 44, was armed and wearing a bulletproof vest when marshals broke down his door in Queens on Aug. 26. He unleashed a barrage of bullets before he was shot and surrendered.
