New York Comic Con opens at the Javits Center

Look! Up in the Javits Center! It's cleavage-baring zombies! It's red-booted Wonder Women! It's the New York Comic Con!

The East Coast's biggest pop-culture convention opened Thursday and runs through Sunday, filling a space the size of three football fields with discussion panels, preview screenings and booth after booth of comics and games and toys.

Last year, more than 133,000 comic lovers jammed into the convention, said its Web site, making it one of the largest events in Gotham City.

This year's con kicked off with a tribute to "Batman" actor Adam West and previews of the Disney movies "Tomorrowland" and "Big Hero 6."

On Friday, TNT will premiere "The Librarians," a series based on a TV movie franchise and featuring a group of librarians on a mission to protect ancient artifacts. Cast members including Christian Kane and Rebecca Romijn will do a panel.

Marvel and DC Comics are both celebrating 75 year anniversaries — for the Guardians of the Galaxy and for Batman, respectively — in panels in the afternoon.

Saturday's events include a talk by "Star Trek" and "X-Men" star Patrick Stewart. Sunday is Kids Day, with a cast reunion of "The Karate Kid" and a Cartoon Network panel.
