Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke were not invited back. Instead, Thrice-nominated Ariana Grande will open the show, singing her new single "Break Free." She will also join Jessie J and Nicki Minaj to perform their song "Bang Bang." Even so, all eyes will be on Beyoncé who has the most nominations of any performer this year: eight. She will sing live, as will Usher, Rita Ora and Iggy Azalea. Maroon 5 will make their debut performance, and Taylor Swift will take the stage at the Forum in Los Angeles for the fourth time.
2. 66th Primetime Emmy Awards

The career of Robin Williams, which started on the ABC sitcom "Mork & Mindy" in 1978, will be celebrated as part of this year's Emmy Awards. Hosted by Seth Meyers the occasion will no doubt have some air of solemnity, as Williams, even in death, will easily be the most talented person in the room. Those who pale in comparison will receive statuettes and hopefully thank their lucky stars. With multiple nominations, "Game of Thrones" and "Orange Is the New Black" (starring Taylor Schilling) and "True Detective" are the shows to beat. There are many first-time nominees, including veterans such as Kate Mulgrew, and slumming movie stars such as Matthew McConaughey and Mark Ruffalo. Some burning questions remain: Will "Breaking Bad" receive Best Drama Series, even after ending nearly a year ago? Does Bryan Cranston need another Emmy?
3. The Strain

Setrakian (David Bradley), Eph (Corey Stoll) and Nora (Mia Maestro) formulate a plan to track down the Master using Jim (Sean Astin) as bait. In a flashback, Eichhorst's (Richard Sammel) and Setrakian's (Jim Watson, as the younger man) pasts are revealed. Neeva (Kim Roberts) struggles to protect the children while encountering a stranger whose help she may not want.
4. Pretty Little Liars

The rabid audience for this Twitter sensation doesn't ever seem to mind that, several seasons in, we still haven't learned who "A" is or why she is never arrested for murder or why her friends don't consider moving to another town where she can't pester them. So here we are at the season finale, with Alison (Sasha Pieterse) leading the Liars down a dangerous path and "A" barring them from telling the police the truth about the original murder a million years ago. Aria (Lucy Hale), Emily (Shay Mitchell), Hanna (Ashley Benson) and Spencer (Troian Bellisario, left) feel trapped and are desperate to find a way out of this mess. Meanwhile, Alison begins to build up her own alliances now that the PLLs have turned their back on her. Heavens.
5. True Blood

Sookie (Anna Paquin) weighs a future with and without Bill (Stephen Moyer). Eric (Alexander Skarsgård) and Pam (Kristin Bauer van Straten) struggle with their uncomfortable partnership with Mr. Gus (Will Yun Lee). Sam (Sam Trammell) makes a choice, while Andy (Chris Bauer) comes upon an unexpected inheritance. With Ryan Kwanten.
6. Under the Dome

When Barbie (Mike Vogel) is apprehended by a group of mysterious men, he is relentlessly interrogated about his connection to the dome. Meanwhile, Big Jim (Dean Norris) makes a deal that could seal the fate of the residents of Chester's Mill forever. Co-starring Eddie Cahill and Rachelle Lefevre.
7. Ray Donovan

Conor (Devon Bagby, center) decides he wants a birthday party — he's 14 now — with the entire family present, even the literally black sheep. The guest list includes his half-brother, Daryll (Pooch Hall), his mother, Claudette (Sheryl Lee Ralph) and his grandfather, Mickey (Jon Voight). When Mickey gives the boy a car for his birthday, an unexpected temper tantrum results. Meanwhile, Ray (Liev Schreiber) gets stewed to the gills as he ponders his wife's whereabouts from the previous night. Terry (Eddie Marsan) learns the painful truth about his largest asset, the family gym, and Bunchy (Dash Mihok) finds he has an unexpected admirer. Directed by Liev Schreiber.
8. American Masters: Dorothea Lange

Dorothea Lange's celebrated "Migrant Mother" is one of the most recognized and haunting images in the history of photography, a portrait that came to represent the suffering of America's Great Depression. Yet few know the story, struggles and profound body of work of the intrepid woman behind the camera. Lange's granddaughter Dyanna Taylor, a cinematographer, gives us rare insight into the woman who documented the Dust Bowl and World War II Japanese-American internment camps.
