Conor Oberst, singer of Bright Eyes, claims the woman who lied about him raping her in the comments section of an xoJane.com story ruined his career and he wants her to pay.
According to documents obtained by TMZ, Oberst, 34, filed a defamation suit against Joanie Faircloth for $1.2 million. Faircloth originally claimed she was raped by the singer on her 16th birthday, after a 2003 concert in North Carolina.
Obserst says because of the false claims, his record label released him—essentially nixing his contract worth $200,000.
Since the legal battle began in February, Faircloth has yet to appear for any hearings.
Oberst said in the suit, "She's a pathological liar with a well-documented history of spinning tales and fabricating sexually themed stories about others to benefit herself."
