Sterling denies he’s a racist in new phone conversation

Despised basketball owner Donald Sterling angrily denied he's a racist, citing his hardscrabble upbringing in East Los Angeles as proof that blacks and Latinos "must have a good feeling for me."

RadarOnline posted a recorded phone call that captures Sterling defending himself to a friend, and refuting another taped chat where the LA Clippers honcho told his gal pal to stop associating with African Americans.

"You think I'm a racist?" Sterling snapped at his pal. "You think I have anything in the world but love for everybody? You don't think that! You know I'm not a racist!"

Throughout the call, Sterling defended himself to his friend, that he said should know the basketball executive doesn't hate non-whites.

Sterling, a 1952 graduate of famed Roosevelt HS in East Los Angeles, said he's always been popular with minorities.

"I grew up in East LA – East LA you die to get out of there!" Sterling raged.

"I was the president of the high school there. I mean, and I'm a Jew! And 50 percent of the people there were black and 40 percent were Hispanic. You ever been to [the East LA neighborhood] Boyle Heights? So I mean, people must have a good feeling for me."

Sterling is in hot water after tape recordings emerged of him chewing out girlfriend V. Stiviano for posting an online picture of herself with Magic Johnson.

He chided her for hanging out with so many black men and told her not to bring any African Americans to Clippers games.

"It breaks my heart that Magic Johnson, a guy that I respect so much, wouldn't stand up and say, 'Well let's get the facts. Let's get him and talk to him.' Nobody tried. Nobody!" Sterling told his friend.

The racially charged comments prompted NBA commissioner Adam Silver to suspend Sterling for life and order him to sell the team.

Sterling told his friend in this latest recording that he won't unload the Clippers.

"You can't force someone to sell property in America!" the Clippers boss snapped. "I'm a lawyer, that's my opinion."

Sterling bought that Clippers in 1981 for $12 million. Despite a long, laughable history of losing, the Clips are now one of basketball's hottest franchises and could be worth anywhere from $575 million to $1 billion.

The Clippers owner said, by definition, you can't be a racist and be involved in basketball.

"I mean, how could you think I'm a racist knowing me all these years?" he said. "How can you be in this business and be a racist? Do you think I tell the coach to get white players? Or to get the best player he can get?"
