A bright fireball lit up the skies of western New York state and Canada on Sunday as a meteor burned up in the atmosphere above.
Dashcams across the area, including one in Toronto, happened by chance to catch the object as it fell from the heavens, burning out across the bright blue sky on Tuesday, according to Space.com. The object appears in the video above at roughly 0:20 before flashing out of existence at 0:25.
While the short-lived lightshow surprised the motorist in the video, the meteor appeared to not have caused any damage in North America.
Last year, a huge meteor lit up the skies of Russia on February 15 and exploded in the atmosphere. The explosion caused injuries as windows shattered across the Chelyabinsk region.
The recent fireball could be connected to the Eta Aquarid meteor shower, which peaked on night of May 5. The shower occurs annually when the planet crosses the path of debris left behind by Halley's Comet.
