Shocking photos emerged Thursday of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's deputy kicking a fallen protester, in images that'll surely fuel anger at the government's outrageous reaction to a deadly mine disaster.

Erdogan had to take cover from angry protesters in Soma on Wednesday when he blew off the deaths of at least 282 coal miners as a "usual" thing.

Soma residents shouted "murderer" and "thief" at Erdogan during an appearance in the town 150 miles southwest of Istanbul. His security detail had him duck into a nearby supermarket to evade the angry town residents.

Along the way, Erdogan's adviser Yusuf Terkel was photographed kicking a man who had already been taken down by two soldiers

The man had kicked at a car in the prime minister's convoy when special forces moved in on him, witnessed told the Hurriyet Daily News.

Just as Yerkel was about to get into his car in the motorcade, he saw the commotion, ran to the protester and delivered three or four enraged kicks, witnesses said.

Yerkel's boss has told his country deadly mine disasters, like the one that struck Soma on Wednesday, can't be avoided.

Erdogan ticked off a list of 19th century British mine disasters that killed hundreds. He even cited the Monongah Mine tragedy in 1907, which killed 361 people in West Virginia.

"Take America with all of its technology and everything … In 1907, 361 [miners died there]," he said. "These are usual things."

Although 363 miners were rescued, about 150 more are still missing. The rescue effort has been slowed by burning coal inside the mine, created toxic fumes for first responders forced to retreat.

"We believe that we still have brothers in two areas that we still have not been able to reach," Energy Minister Taner Yildiz said.
