Woodson: It’s sad that Donald Sterling would stoop that low

Former Clippers guard Mike Woodson said he would not work for besieged owner Donald Sterling again, saying that it is "sad an owner would even stoop that low."

Woodson, the former Knicks coach who made an appearance as a guest analyst on NBA TV, had pointed words for the Clippers owner who ran the team when he played there from 1986 to 1988.

"No, if this comes out to be true, no, absolutely not," Woodson said on a panel discussion regarding Sterling. "But again, we've got to let this unfold and see where we are with it. I played for the Clippers back in the middle 80s for Donald and those were the tough times. When I say tough times, now he finally has a team that has arrived and has a legit shot to win the title this year. So in (coach Doc Rivers') defense, I just think Doc has to stay the course and try to keep all the distractions behind him and focus in on his team, because this is not going to go away."

Sterling is accused of allegedly saying on audio to his girlfriend not to bring African-Americans to Clippers game or post photos of them on Instagram.

"I agree it needs to be a suspension," Woodson said. "I just think if it's being told as we sit here today, it's just sad that an owner would even stoop that low to do something like that. I hope it's not the case. That's just how I look at it."
