Oscar Pistorius' slain girlfriend was packing up to leave the Blade Runner, sending him into a vengeful rage and triggering her violent death, South African prosecutors said on Monday.
Reeva Steenkamp's jeans were found on the floor near Pistorius' bed, in a small detail that prosecutor Gerrie Nel said is proof she wanted to get out of the house.
A stunning model and reality TV figure, Steenkamp was a neat freak who would never carelessly leave clothes on the floor — unless she was in the process of getting dressed to go, according to Nel.
"I'm saying, and it's the state's case, Mr. Pistorius, that she wanted to leave and that you weren't sleeping, you were both awake," Nel said in a Pretoria courtroom.
Pistorius, 27, has struggled to contain his emotions on the witness stand.
When he began to wail and cry during Monday's testimony, Judge Thokozile Masipa — who will decide Pistorius' fate — called for a recess.
After the trial resumed, Pistorius again broke down in tears under Nel's withering, argumentative cross-examination, forcing a second adjournment.
The Paralympian shot and killed Steenkamp inside his house, in the early hours of Feb. 14, 2013. She was shot while cowering inside a bathroom.

The once-beloved sprinter, who competed in the Olympics with two prosthetic legs, said he mistook Steenkamp for an intruder.
Prosecutors theorize they had argued that night, before a vengeful Pistorius blew her away.
The emotional Pistorious — on the witness stand on Monday for a second week of testimony — stuck to his version of events, that he believed he was firing on an intruder.
Through his tears, Pistorious told the court he was screaming at this imagined intruder: "Get the f–k out of my house! Get the f–k out of my house!"
Nel picked apart small details of Pistorius' account, in hopes of destroying the Olympic icon's credibility.
"You're tailoring your version as you're sitting there," Nel said.
The prosecutor challenged the defendant's testimony that he and Steenkamp went to bed at about 10 p.m., hours before she was killed.
But forensic tests showed that Steenkamp was up and had something to eat at about 1 a.m., according to Nel.
"I am going to point out to you how improbable your version is," Nel said.
