A downed overhead power line in Penn Station caused a spate of delays and some cancellations on the LIRR, Amtrak and NJ transit trains during Thursday's morning commute, railroad officials said.
"Customers should expect possible delays, cancellations in Jamaica, and some trains being diverted to Atlantic Terminal or Hunterspoint Ave.," the LIRR said on its Web site.
Commuters can use their LIRR tickets at Hunterspoint Avenue to take the 7 train, and riders on trains being diverted to Atlantic Terminal can transfer in Jamaica for service to Penn Station.
NJT spokesman John Durso Jr. said the problems with Amtrak's overhead wires cut off power to 12 tracks Thursday morning. One train was stopped and brought back to the station.
There are delays of up to 45 minutes in and out of New York City on Northeast Corridor, North Jersey Coast and Raritan Valley line trains.
Midtown Direct trains are being diverted to Hoboken.
Buses and PATH are cross-honoring NJ Transit rail tickets.
