New Yorkers weren't about to let a few mouse droppings come between them and their Cronuts Tuesday morning.
Dozens of fans waited on line outside Soho's Dominique Ansel Bakery — famed home of the Cronut pastry — waiting for it to reopen after being closed by health officials over a mouse infestation.
"The mice don't really cause me concern. If you're in New York City it's hard to avoid a mouse popping up now and then. It's New York. If you can't handle some mice your metabolism is not ready for the big city," said Jay Randolph, 41, a web producer from Harlem who had been waiting outside the Spring Street shop since 6 a.m.
"The mice run this city. The only places that say they don't have them are just the ones where the inspectors haven't seen them yet," agreed Lester Sykes, 26, an artist who lives in Bed-Stuy who was visiting for the first time.
As people huddled in the drizzle, owner Dominique Ansel came out to thank his customers and announce that April's special flavor – Passion Fruit Caramelia Chocolate – would be rechristened "Rocky" for the day in honor of Sylvester Stallone's character in the flicks of the same name.
"We work hard every day. We took a hit but today we're back. We're back stronger than ever," he said.
"And thank you all for coming. We made a special Cronut for today. The theme is Rocky. It's about, you take a hit, you go down but you come back up stronger, and we keep moving forward and make what we believe."
Tourists also wanted to be in on the yummy action.
Four women from Hong Kong were at the head of the line, including Felicia Yip, 30, a civil servant.
"This is our last day in New York so I'm glad they're reopening. I heard they were closed for cleaning because of the mice. I'm not worried. I've heard mice in New York are quite common," Yip said.
"They're reopening just today after all of the cleaning and reconstruction so this is the best moment to get the Cronuts. It won't get any cleaner than this."
The Department of Health lifted the restrictions on the bakery so it could resume serving the hit croissant-doughnut hybrid.
Authorities had shut the bakery Friday after discovering a "severe mouse infestation," the DOH said.
A customer had taken a cellphone video of a rodent darting across the kitchen and posted it to the Internet.
