Mayor de Blasio will appoint former American Planning Association President Mitchell Silver parks commissioner on Friday, according to Crain's New York.
Silver, the chief planning and development officer for the city of Raleigh, NC, worked on redevelopment of the Harlem Piers and the revitalization of Jamaica Center in Queens.
The nationally known urban planning expert received his bachelor's degree in architecture from Pratt Institute and a master's degree from Hunter College.
The parks post has been vacant since Veronica White resigned at the end of last year, and the department has been run by a deputy commissioner.
The delay in picking a new boss had led to complaints from parks advocates.Aaron Short
