Iran defends ‘right’ to research advanced nuclear centrifuges

Iran's nuclear chief on Saturday defended the country's "right" to carry out research on advanced centrifuges, state media reported.

Iran and world powers agreed Friday on how to implement a landmark deal reached in November on containing Tehran's nuclear program — but it must still be approved by each country before it can take effect.

"Advanced centrifuges, which are Iran's right [to use], were one of the points of disagreement raised by the other party," Ali Akbar Salehi said, according to Iran's Fars News Agency.

Iran wants to press ahead with the development of more-advanced centrifuges and is already testing several different new, more efficient centrifuge models at its Natanz research facility, according to the UN nuclear watchdog.
