Wilkerson: Plenty of time for Jets playoff run

Jets defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson feels there is plenty of time for the team to correct the problems that have plagued it in an up-and-down 5-5 season.

"Time isn't running out for us," Wilkerson said Tuesday. "We know what we have to do to get these last six games. Everybody knows that they're capable of helping out and contributing. We just have to put the pieces together and finish strong."

Wilkerson spoke after handing out boxes filled with entire Thanksgiving dinners to 200 families in Elizabeth, N.J. where he spent some of his childhood. He was joined by teammates Sheldon Richardson and Santonio Holmes.

Two days after the embarrassing 37-14 loss to the Bills, Wilkerson admitted the Jets did not look like a playoff team, but he feels they can do enough to make the postseason.

"I think we'll finish strong and be a playoff team," he said.

Wilkerson handed out the turkeys at an Elizabeth firehouse across from an apartment building he lived in as a child. Wilkerson lived in Elizabeth until he was 11. Many members of his family were there to support him.

"It means a lot," Wilkerson said of giving back. "I was born and raised right across the street. This is like home to me. It's a tribute to everybody who helped out somehow, some way, to the community. My grandmother still lives here. It's great to give back and help the best I can."

The Jets placed tight end Konrad Reuland on season-ending injured reserve with a knee injury.
