Love an oldie but goodie? Bull & Bear (steak, above) makes the cut.

New York is home to an ever-changing roster of meat dealers. (See how I ranked the top new beef eateries.) But what about older steakhouses? These are my favorites:

PORTER HOUSE NEW YORK

Prime beef doesn't usually come with a prime view, but Michael Lomonaco's modern Time Warner Center place offers a side dish of Central Park. Fine salad, fish and pasta, too.

PETER LUGER

178 Broadway, Williamsburg; 718-387-7400

The fabled sliced porterhouse rarely disappoints. And although most go for steak, starters and sides have stealthily upped their game in recent years.

BLT STEAK

The original outpost of the French-influenced "interpretation of the American steakhouse" BLT chain and still the best. Buttery popovers precede a wealth of first-rate cuts in a modern atmosphere.

KEENS STEAKHOUSE

72 W. 36th St.; 212-947-3636

Consistently fine beef and older lamb that's almost mutton in Manhattan's most enchanting, well-aged rooms — 128 years old and counting.

BULL & BEAR

540 Lexington Ave.; 212-872-1275

The atmospheric Waldorf-Astoria classic is the city's only good restaurant run by a large hotel's food and beverage operation. Stick with steak, avoid "ocean" choices and you'll be fine.
