Nassau County cop shot, injured while responding to burglary; 2 men in custody

Authorities say a police officer responding to a report of a home burglary has been shot and injured on Long Island.

WABC-TV reports the 32-year-old Nassau County officer is a six-year veteran of the department. He is in critical but stable condition after undergoing surgery.

The shooting occurred in New Hyde Park around 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Authorities at the scene said two men were taken into custody and were being questioned in connection with the shooting.

Police had closed off half of New Hyde Park as they conducted a manhunt for the suspects. They say a search for any additional suspects has ended and there is no public threat.

Inspector Kenneth Lack, a police spokesman, said the house in the alleged burglary had been targeted.
