The mentally ill man who stabbed his girlfriend to death and then stuffed her body in a 55-gallon drum has been arrested for murder, police said.
Bismark Lithgow, 24, was slapped with second-degree murder charges today for the March 2 slaying of Francis Angelica Alfonso Pellarano, 19, police said.
The teen's body was found after Lithgow's grandmother called 911 because of a foul odor coming from the man's room inside of their home on Seventh Avenue near West 140th Street, cops said.
Lithgow and his girlfriend were living together in the apartment that they shared with his grandmother, cops said.
Lithgow, who suffers from bi-polar disorder, was taken to St. Luke's Hospital for psychiatric treatment following the murder.
The city's medical examiner later determined that Alfonso Pellarano had been stabbed to death, police said.
