22-year-old killed in Chelsea hit-and-run

A man was killed in a hit-and-run accident in Manhattan early today, police said.

The 22-year-old was found unconscious in Chelsea at the intersection of 12th Avenue and 23rd Street about 2:55 a.m., authorities said. He suffered severe body trauma and was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital.

Cops said the victim was hit in the crosswalk by a car heading south on 12th Avenue. The driver then fled the scene, police said.

The victim's name has not been released pending family notification, cops said.
