PRESTON, Conn. — Two young Connecticut boys who were taken from their daycare by their grandmother Tuesday afternoon were found dead hours later in a parked car along with her — and police reportedly suspect the granny killed the children and then herself.
State police said the bodies of 6-month-old Ashton and 2-year-old Alton Perry and their grandmother, Debra Denison, 47, were found Tuesday night in Preston. The New Haven Register newspaper quotes state police as saying it appears the deaths were the result of murder-suicide.
Authorities said Denison had picked up Ashton and Alton from their daycare in Danielson at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and could not be located. State police then issued an Amber Alert.
At about 9:30 p.m. troopers received a report of a suspicious vehicle parked near Lake of Isles, in a secluded area in the eastern part of the state. The two boys and their grandmother were pronounced dead at the scene.
Family members told WFSB-TV that Alton turned 2 years old on Tuesday and that a party had been planned for him. They said Denison was to pick up the boys from daycare and bring them home so Alton's presents could be opened.
The family said Denison suffered from bipolar disorder and had a history of mental issues.
The state medical examiner's office is to conduct an autopsy to determine the manner and cause of death.
