NFL: Mangini, Crennel to Saints?

While reinstated Saints coach Sean Payton said he's in no hurry to replace the fired Steve Spagnuolo at defensive coordinator, ESPN's Adam Schefter tweeted two candidates the team will consider are ex-Jets' head coach Eric Mangini and former Giants' assistant Romeo Crennel.

When reached, Mangini said he has not been contacted by anybody from the Saints .

GOLF: Wood has a three-shot lead

Chris Wood shot an 8-under 64 for a three-stroke lead on Michael Campbell and two others after the third round of the Qatar Masters.

Wood started the day two shots behind Sergio Garcia and Martin Kaymer, but moved ahead with five birdies on the front nine en route to a 15-under 201.

HOOPS: Jones leads Iona to win

Lamont Jones scored 24 points and all five Iona starters scored in double figures in a 90-71 MAAC victory over Saint Peter's in New Rochelle.

In Miami, Dwyane Wade scored 29 points to help the Heat earn their fourth victory in a row by beating the Pistons 110-88. Between quarters, Michael Drysch, a 50-year-old computer technician from McHenry, Ill., made a half-court shot to win $75,000 and a hug from LeBron James.

ETC.: Wagner's Hameline honored

Wagner College head football coach Walt Hameline was named the 2012 College Sports Journal FCS National Coach of the Year after leading the Seahawks (9-4) to the school's first Northeast Conference title, and an FCS playoff win over Colgate.

Under a rule change imposed by MLB, pitchers will no longer be allowed to fake a pickoff to third base and throw to first as a way to dupe a runner on first base into breaking for second. Next season, that move will be a balk. Pitchers still can step off the rubber and fake to third.

The change was approved at the owners' meetings two weeks ago.
