Alleged drunk driver kills 1 after smashing into L.I.E. median

A boozed-up driver crashed into a median on a Queens highway -- killing one of his passengers today, authorities said.

The 39-year-old man was headed eastbound on the Long Island Expressway at 4 a.m. this morning when his 2003 Ford Explorer struck the median just passed the 108th Street exit, police said.

The unidentified front seat passenger suffered severe injuries and was rushed to New York Hospital of Queens where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Three passengers in the back seat were also injured in the smash up, police said. They were all taken to Elmhurst Hospital with non life-threatening injuries, police said.

The driver of the SUV was arrested at the scene and charges against him are pending, police said.
