TRENTON, N.J. — Efforts to get commuter trains running in New Jersey have suffered a setback and New Jersey Transit won't be able to run as many trains into New York City.
NJ Transit spokesman John Durso Jr. says a backup generator failed overnight at the center in Kearny and couldn't be restarted. Switching equipment was affected.
Service that had been set to restart Friday is suspended on the North Jersey Coast, Raritan and Main lines. Buses will cross-honor rail passes.
But Northeast Corridor service into New York is running.
